Huawei achieves new âworld recordâ 5G speed with Turk Telecom
Huawei, the Chinese network equipment manufacturer, has broken the world record 5G speed for a single user smartphone in a live test network with Turk Telecom, the leading telecom operator in Turkey.
The test was conducted at a Turk Telecom facility in Istanbul, using a Huawei Mate 20 X 5G smartphone and a Turk Telecom 5G SIM card. The test network was built with Huaweiâs commercial 5G equipment and complied with the international 3GPP standards.
The result was astonishing: the smartphone achieved a speed of 2.92 Gbps, which is nearly three times faster than the previous record of 1 Gbps. This means that a user could download a 2 GB movie in less than six seconds.
How did Huawei achieve this feat
The key technology behind this achievement is called C-Band NR Carrier Aggregation, which allows combining two or more 5G carriers to increase the bandwidth and speed of the connection. Huawei claims that its products are the only ones that can support this technology.
âWe combined two 5G carriers and established a new world record by reaching speeds of above 2.92 Gbps in our live 5G test network,â said Yusuf KÄraÃ, TÃrk Telekomâs CTO. âWe are also the first operator to experiment with the 5G New Radio Carrier Aggregation Technology (C-Band NR Carrier Aggregation), which doubles the 5G link speed.â
KÄraà added that this technology also provides many benefits for users and operators, such as higher data quality, lower latency, and more efficient spectrum utilization.
What does this mean for the future of 5G
This test demonstrates the theoretical potential of 5G using commercial equipment and devices. However, it does not mean that commercial users will be able to access such speeds anytime soon, as there are many factors that affect the actual performance of 5G networks, such as coverage, traffic, interference, and regulations.
Nevertheless, it shows that Huawei is still a leader in 5G technology and innovation, despite the challenges it faces from the US government, which has banned Huawei from participating in its 5G rollouts and urged its allies to do the same over national security concerns.
Huawei has denied any allegations of wrongdoing and has continued to work with its partners around the world to deploy 5G networks. In Europe, Huawei is a major supplier for many operators, including TÃrk Telekom, which plans to launch its commercial 5G service in 2020.
âHuawei will continue to work with TÃrk Telekom to bring customers more market-leading commercial 5G applications in the future and support the digitalization of Turkey,â said Simon Pei, Deputy Country General Manager of Huawei Turkey.
Conclusion
Huawei achieves new âworld recordâ 5G speed with Turk Telecom in a live test network using C-Band NR Carrier Aggregation technology. The test shows that Huawei is still at the forefront of 5G innovation and development, despite the US pressure and restrictions. However, it does not imply that such speeds will be available for commercial users in the near future, as there are many practical challenges and limitations to overcome. aa16f39245
